It's been a long busy month since we were last on here.
Mason is done with the casting process for his toe walking...but sadly, we didn't get the full results we'd hoped for. It was successful in that he gained a great deal (about 15%) range of motion in both feet, but there was a slim chance that after 3 weeks of not being able to be on his toes, that he might have just started walking normally. But that isn't the case. Over this past weekend, we tried an experiment with Kinesio Tape. A Japanese therapy you might have seen on athletes during the Olympics. The tape is designed to "pull back" on itself, and was applied in a fashion that helps to pull his toes upward. It helped a bit, but he was still on his toes over 25% of the time. He meets with his PT person later today and I think she'll make the call that he'll need to be re-casted for leg braces. They do a quick cast then custom make plastic leg braces in about 10 days. He may need them for upwards of several months to a year. When the braces are on, there is NO WAY to toe walk. And, unlike the last set of casts these are fully removable allowing for baths and water play.
This is a picture of his first set of casts - and his bubble blowing time while Mammie and I removed them. They needed to be soaked for 45 mins so we could make the plaster pliable enough to cut/tear away.
Emmi is doing well with her therapy. She seems to be responding really quickly. As you can see in the pics, she still has quite a tilt to her, but after just 3 visits her neck is much much straighter.
Other than that, she's doing really well. She is saying Mama & Dada - We thought we must be hearing things, but her therapist and my friend Laurie heard it too. She is rolling over in both directions and loves to growl!!! She turned 5 months old on Saturday - time is flying by!
Ben was home last week on Spring Break - Spent a couple of nights with his Dad, down in Hampton and also got to visit his friend Chris at RPI in upstate NY for a (warm) weekend of skiing before heading back to Lehigh on Sunday. It was nice to have him home again. While he was here, he spent a great deal of time working on internship applications for next summer. He's trying to make his way into the political scene either with Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins, and looking to do that here in Maine (Augusta) or down in Washington DC.
