Yet another Mason Update

Hello again - A lot has happened since we last posted. We have been in our new house for almosts 2 weeks now and are starting to get settled a bit. And, as always, Mason has been keeping us on our toes!

Over the last 4 to 5 weeks he's been having a terrible time sleeping at night - not that he was ever very good at it - but so much worse that we decided to call the Dr.

Long story short: She thought we should see a pediatric nuerologist as she had concerns that his soft spot was closing to early and that his head was too broad - a sign of craniosynostosis. On Friday last week Jay and I took him to Maine Medical Ctr for skull X-Rays and today we met the Dr.

Now for the good news: His head is fine!! Oh what a relief!...the Dr did tell us that his head measures in the 75th percentile while the rest of his body is in the 25th...it seems the brain realizes that his reflux causes him to be low on calorie intake and the brain hogs the calories so it can grow on target and the rest of the body grows more slowly for now and will catch up when the reflux resolves. Aren't bodies cool? Mason's soft spot is small but still open (and therefore allowing his brain to grow) and his plates are not yet fused.

He can't be sure what's causing the screaming fits at night but suspects that it could be Night Terrors - no real treatment for that as they don't understand why they happen.

We're going to see the GI Dr again in 2 weeks and this Dr suggested we speak with him about the possibility that there may still be some GI issue that may be causing him to awaken. For now he suggests that we give him Benadryl and Mylanta before bed to help him sleep and keep any heartburn at bay.

And for some more good news...Mason can now sit up alone and can crawl about 5 steps!

He's loving his new house - especially all the ceiling fans! Now that's fun! Enjoy the new pics ~
