Mason Update

Hello Again -

It's been about a month since Mason's first visit with the GI doctor and we're still puzzling over what to do. I did the milk-free, soy-free diet for over 3 weeks with no change in Mason's symptoms - Sad for Mason, but now that I can eat cheese & ice cream again - Happy for me!

We took him in for a "weigh-in" about 16 days into the process and he'd gained 9 ounces - not stellar, but just enough for the Doctor to hold off on any exploritory procedures. It seems healthy babies should be gaining about 1 ounce per day during the first 4 to 5 months of life. Mason came in at just over 1/2 of that, and that seemed to be good enough.

Most babies his age are drinking about 4-5oz per feeding and averaging about 30-32oz per day. Mason was only taking 2oz per feeding and about 18-20oz per day. To increase his intake, we're nursing more frequently and supplimenting with a different hypoallergenic formula which he seems to like a bit better...and we've found a bottle that he seems to prefer. At this point he's taking 3oz and sometimes 4oz at a time - I would say that we still see about 1/4 to a 1/3 of that back up...but the Dr is happy that we are starting to get more into him at a time.

We don't have scales at the house so we don't know how much he's gained as of today, but he has started to outgrow his 0-3 month clothes - It seems that if he's not getting any bigger around, at least he's getting longer!
